I met both you and Starkat there at the Narnia Exhibition. I was there with some of my family. I use to live in Texas but moved to Colorado not long after that.

Hey, does it count if you made someone get on Narniaweb and become a Narniawebber?

Because if so,....

Urnus is a Narniawebber I have met in person.

That would be him, though I strongly suspect that if he ever comes back to NarniaWeb, he's going to change his name. ;))

(I was looking through the thread and realized that, contrary to what I remembered, I've never actually posted my own list. ;)) I'll have to rectify that when I have a little more time.)

I looked through old posts in this thread. It was very bittersweet since many of the members who posted in this thread aren't on anymore but it was nice seeing the posts and wish lists. I have come so far from being terrified about meeting people on the internet. There is something so special about meeting NarniaWebbers in real life.

Wow... way to put me on the spot. :-s I think the real question is, was I as awesome as you'd hoped?

Yes, of course you're all as awesome as I'd hoped. What's really strange is reading through that list with the mindset of when I wrote it, thinking "Oh yeah, it would be cool to meet those people" and then actually looking at the list more closely and realizing, "oh yeah, I have met half of those people."

Of the list above, I've met:

glumPuddle
Pattertwig's Pal
fantasia_kitty
gymfan
Rillian
coracle

Although, I must mention that I've met so many extremely nice NarniaWebbers who weren't on that original wish list. The whole experience just makes me ready for the next get-together. I wish Silver Chair would hurry up and come out. It's time for another Lion Party.

I wasn't trying to put you on the spot per se, you were just the one post that caught my eye as I knew you had met many of those on your list... which is extremely cool. :D
And of course I loved hosting you and the other mods a couple weeks back. :D

I do want to say to those who haven't had a chance to meet people online, or maybe have become too comfortable, always be cautious! I myself have met two NWebbers that... I'd prefer to not see again. (Neither still visit the site.)
Thankfully the positive meetings have always outweighed the negative ones and I've made my best friends on this site! :D

Also looking forward to the next party!

Yikes! I definitely did not mean to imply that if people are on NarniaWeb they are safe to meet. I rewrote that post several times and lost something in the process. (Like that now most of my real life friends are people I met on NarniaWeb) Of course safety is the first priority. I did not make the decision to meet NarniaWebbers lightly. There can be dangerous people on any site. It is more like I expected it to never be a good idea to meet people in real life from the internet. And now I realize that every case should be evaluated separately.

And I didn't mean to imply you weren't being cautious. :ymhug: You northerners are lucky to have a nice safety net up there as I don't think you'll meet anyone by yourselves ever again. ;))
I only quoted you because it was convenient to reiterate to always be safe. :)

The safety thing is definitely an interesting topic, because before/during/after the Eclipse Moot I was having to explain to a lot of non-NWebber friends what I was doing and WHY I felt completely safe and comfortable meeting strangers in a rental house in Missouri, haha. I get it, on a surface level, it sounds pretty nuts. But, if you think about it, I've always had safeguards, even if I never really articulated them as such.

I think for me, the biggest safety benefit is association, or people being able to "vouch" for each other. You start out small; meeting a group of people in a public place with other adults/trusted people present. For me, that was Comic-Con '07 and also the PC Lion Party in LA; when my mom and friend came with me. I met a ton of people at those two events, and that really established the ability to be able to go to other meetups and Mod Moots because since I had met a few people "in real life", those people could then "vouch" for other people that I met at subsequent meetups or events. So knowing people by association of each other is really helpful and makes the whole thing so much safer and comfortable.

I'm reminded of when I took a vacation with a former NWebber in Japan two years ago; we'd never met in person before that but we had a mutual "real life" friend so that was good enough for me, haha.

I've met many based on the two moots I've attended (MN & Eclipse). However, I'm not about to list them out because I don't want to leave anyone out. I'd love to attend a lion party some day (maybe SC).

Regarding concerns regarding meeting people you've never actually met, I endorse the 'public introduction first' method, although personally I didn't use that approach. However, at the time I joined (2004) the anonymity of posting made me feel comfortable with the folks here. Many of the people I've met here I've felt were trustworthy. This was through many years of online conversations. My first moot was just a few years ago. Admittedly there were also several people I had never met nor had online conversations online with. However, the few I did know from here I felt were trustworthy.
