^^why? That's actually a pretty good sign. Means they do well with making good fantasy movies. Those movies were close to the books and huge blockbusters. I'd like for Narnia to be that.

New Line Cinema went bankrupt after making The Golden Compass and is now part of Warner Bros. They are one and the same ;) :p

I didn't know New Line had gone bankrupt. I thought that movie was quite successful - not that I've seen it.

I personally think Fox is unlikely to drop it any time soon but if they did (and VDT had done well) Disney would be quite likely to want to pick it up again but like someone else said I don't know that Walden would want them too. So I'd be wanting Warner Bros. to pick it up I think (I was going to suggest New Line as well but obviously not after that last post ;) ). But I agree with Glenstorm again that I don't want them to as they did Harry Potter as I am against that series and what it promotes. They would be likely to play up the magical side in order to draw more HP fans to Narnia. So I hope Fox stays personally (not that I thought they'd leave in the first place.) ;) B-)

I highly doubt that Disney would try to do Narnia movies again. If the movie goes well, Fox won't let go of it. If the movie doesn't go well, why would Disney try to get it back?

They shouldn't go back to Disney. not even if Fox drops the Narnia franchise. If it were to happen Walden should partner up with either Warner Brothers or Tristar.

The only reason Disney would want to release the Narnia films after VDT is because they think it's going to be a success. Unless there's something I'm missing...

Who knows, maybe there will be a huge fight over the franchise if it gets popular enough. That doesn't seem likely, though, since the Narnia franchise isn't nearly as popular as a dozen other franchises I could mention... unfortunately.

I just hope that whoever does get the rights, does a good job of marketing. With VDT, I haven't seen much advertising at all...

I can mention several franchises that have done better than Narnia but not a dozen. Twilight, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars... um.

Well, I meant "a dozen" more as just a figure of speech, instead of literally. Buuuttt, since we're being literal...

1. Twilight
2. Harry Potter
3. Lord of the Rings
4. Star Wars
5. Pirates of the Carribbean
6. Spider Man
7. National Treasure
8. Fantastic Four
9. Iron Man
10. Jurrassic Park
11. Hellboy
12. Toy Story (especially the third one)
13. Ice Age (?)
14. Spy Kids (? They were pretty insnaely popular)
15. James Bond 007
16. Sherlock Holmes

I guess there's even more than twelve. ;)

It's unfortunate that the Narnia movies aren't as popular as some other movies are. Hopefully, now that a different compant owns them, they will become more popular. But I have my doubts, seeing as a lot of the movies on the above list were marketed by Disney. It's too bad Disney let Narnia go... I really wish they would take the franchise back...

Are we talking BoxOffice? Since some of the franchises you listed are waaaay off Narnia's worldwide boxoffice total of 1.1 billion (745m + 419m)

National Treasure: 347m + 457m = 804m
Fantastic Four: 330m +289m = 619m
Hellboy: 99m + 160m = 259m
Spy Kids: 147m + 119m + 197m = 463m

A few of the others would also be well under Narnia if you considered their boxoffice on a average per-movie basis.

Obviously we are never going to be getting into Harry Potter / Star Wars / Pirates territory, but Narnia has done pretty well to break a billion on just two films, all things considered, and even a modest box-office taking from VDT will see it push on even further up the list.

I think if PC had been released in the december of 2007 (and have gone against the Golden Compass) it would have made much more money and have gotten more media attention.

PC was pretty much overlooked when Indiana Jones and Iron Man came out.

I'm sure VotDT will have a good opening weekend, but I'm worried it will be overshadowed by Tron the follwing week. Cause Disney's marketing to Tron has been much better then Fox's marketing of VotDT.

Nope. I was thinking of popularity with fans, not the box office. The franchises I mentioned were always the talk of the town when they came out. The Narnia movies... Not so much. :(

Everyone keeps saying how much marketing Tron is getting, but I have absolutely no idea what Tron even is. Never heard of it except when it's mentioned here. Then again, most people I ask haven't heard about VDT either. :( Maybe that will be a good thing if it turns out horrible. ;)
