Narnian Pronunciations
Okay, I'm curious. Are there any names of people or places (in Narnia) that you have pronounced one way since you started reading the books and then when you watch the movies you find out that everyone else pronounces it different? And there's some I'm not sure about.
Ramandu: I always put the emphasis on the first syllable--in the movie the empahsis is on the second syllable.
Coriakin: I know I was flat out wrong on this one--I actually never noticed that "i" in the middle there. I always called him cor-uh-kin.
Calormene: Now when you are talking about the country of Calormen I'm pretty sure its a short e sound. But if you are talking about a person from Calormen, they are called a Calormene and it looks like it should be a long e. I've always pronounced the two words with a short e in my mind, but I'm probably wrong.
Anybody else surprised by the way something was pronounced in the movies?

I always pronounced Ramandu with the emphasis on the first syllable, too. Same with Coriakin. COR-ee-uh-kin.
As for Calormen/Calormene, I always said them differently but wondered if they might be he same.
For me the "i" in Reepicheep is short.

Ramandu - Ru-mahn-doo with the emphasis on the middle syllable.
Coriakin - Cor-ee-ah-kin
Calormene - Cuh-lore-mun.
I pretty much pronounce everything the way the pronounce it in the audio dramas, I think.

Oddly I always though Minotaur was pronounced with a "short I" so that the "Mi"part was the same as in Mickey. But in the movie they pronounced it as a long I like in My.

Re: Narnian Pronunciations
I thought that Minotaur was pronounced with a short I as well.
For some reason, I also thought Eustace was "Eustance" until I heard it pronounced by somebody. I have no idea where the extra N came from.

Re: Narnian Pronunciations
I first read the books many years ago, and didn't have anyone to talk to about them, so I always thought the place itself was Nar-NEYE-ya: long 'i' and stress on second syllable.
The difference is that people wanted to hear the stories, whereas I never met anyone who wanted to read the essays

Re: Narnian Pronunciations
I pronounced Telmarines as Tel-mair-ree-ns and Telmar as Telmair even after listening to the audio dramas and the movie. It wasn’t until recently when I was listening to the podcast that I realized I had it wrong in my mind all this time.
I also sometimes want to add a D to the end of Aslan’s name and call him Asland even though I know it’s Aslan.

Re: Narnian Pronunciations
I pronounce Aslan as Az-lan, not Ass-lan. I originally pronounced Peepiceek with an S because I was never all that good with phonilogical languages. Now it just strikes me as a seriously lame fan-fiction name. Sorry Mr Lewis, you messed up that one.

With all due respect, "Aslan" is not a fan-fiction name. Aslan is the Turkish name for Lion. Or were you referring to Peepiceek?
My pronunciations are as follows
RA-man-du
PeepiCHeek
Ca-LOR-men
There was another pronunciation that I was suprised to hear in Prince Caspian...but I can't remember it...

Aravis - Air-uh-vis
Minotaur - Mine-uh-tar. I used to pronounce in min-uh-tar until I saw the movies.
Peepiceek - Peep-i-keek short i sound
Aslan - both Ass-lan and Az-lan
Telmarines - Tell-muhr-eens
Tarkheena - Tar-kee-nuh
I'm assuming Warrior 4 Jesus meant phonetic language?
