You're right. He shouldn't play Puddleglum. But the question is, should he play Uncle Andrew? ;))

Jim Carrey would make a great Uncle Andrew. I loved him in A Series of Unfortunate Events, I thought of Uncle Andrew when I saw him in the movie recently. :)

DamselJillPole, I agree, I don't really care if he's not British, none of us care (except glumPuddle). But I think that the producers wouldn't be looking for such an expensive non-British actor at this point. I think that the most expensive actor we can hope for is Liam Neeson. I agree, Carrey's extremely talented. And his impressions go way before his Ace Ventura days; he was in a tv show before he ever got onto the big screen. He seems too big of an actor though. My fear is that if they got somebody like him, they'd try to give him a bigger role and sacrifice Diggory time.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. You don't like Steve Coogan because he's too young and goofy, but you're open to the idea of Jim Carrey who is far goofier and the same age? :P ;))

Well I for one am very opposed to the idea of Jim Carrey. He's been brought up because of his role in ASoUE and that's why I especially DON'T want to see him as Uncle Andrew. Too typecast, too unoriginal, too 'been there done that.' Nor would I like his maniacal twist on the character.

/:) Maybe three or four people in this thread don't care, but I know a whole lot more, myself included, who would throw a huge fit if he wasn't at the very least portrayed as British. And I would prefer someone who is British be cast in this role as well. :)

I thought of this because of something someone said on the King Frank thread. What about Timothy Spall for Uncle Andrew? For some odd reason, I can really picture him in that part. Any thoughts?

Jim Carrey pretty much played an Arts-take on Uncle Andrew with Count Olaf in The Series of Unfortunate Events. Surely I'm not the only one who noticed the similarities between the two?

I ran across this guy while looking for ideas for Frank the Cabby and thought 'whoa! It's a young Uncle Andrew!' so I figured I'd go ahead and suggest him.

How about Rhys Ifans? I admit he's a bit young for the part, but I REALLY like the way he looks. And frankly I don't think Uncle Andrew's age is integral to the story.

Nicholas Lyndhurst has certainly got older since I last saw a photo of him - a bit more makeup to make him look the 50 plus he needs to be, and he could do the part.

My vote continues to be for..... Bill Nighey!

Rhys Ifans could do it. But then, he also looks like a good person to play Puddleglum. :)

I suspect that most suggestions could overlap between those two characters. CGI and makeup bits aside, Uncle Andrew and Puddleglum have very similar descriptions. :)

CGI could also make the same person appear to be different people.... Uncle Andrew and Puddleglum are definitely two of the biggest characters I am looking forward to seeing.

My vote is definitely for Bill Nighey, I have been thinking about it and he's the best I can think of.

I vote for Johny Depp! He is so Ecentric and different. He is the perfect actor for Uncle Andrew!

Nicholas Lyndhurst seems best to me, so far.

I, personally, could see the guy who is on "Dr. Who" being Uncle Andrew. (I don't know his name.)
