Video of Filming - Dragon Attack!

Postby icarus » Sep 06, 2009 3:26 pm

I initially just posted this in the Dawn Treader Ship thread... but then i realised the video was a whole lot cooler than i first thought, so i thought it was worth giving it its own topic, so that it doesn't drag the Dawn Treader Ship thread too far off topic, which really should be for commenting on the ships design and such. Anyway:

From the sounds of the director's calls, they seem to be filming a scene with the Dragon! Anyone want to help try and make a transcript? A couple of bits i can't quite make out, but here is my attempt:

Wave!(?)

It's a Dragon!
He's coming in closer! He's starting to come towards the ship!
One! He's coming around towards the front! He's going around the front!
Two! We (or "He"?) don't know where he is going! React! React!
He's coming around to the other side!
Three! He's coming around the back now!
Look around! He's coming to the back side! He's on the tail now!
Four! He's swinging all the way around. He's circling, circling!
Coming around the starboard!
And Five! He's coming towards the mast! He's looking up towards the mast!
And he lands on top of the mast!
Shake to Port!
And shake to Starboard!

**a crew member yells something**

**another crew member yells "Fire!" (?) **

And Hit! He's trying (?) to fall down! He's going down!
He lands! Crash!
And he's getting back up! Here he comes!
And he's flying out to sea! He's going around!
He's coming around the front, he's going around the nose(?)
And now he's flying off towards the island
*something, something* and he's going off to sea

excellent find there Icarus! :-bd

i think you got most of the transcript right. initially i thought the first word was "bang!" but i think "wave" was right.

i'm watching it again, couldnt tell if these were just the extras/ crew or they actually have the main cast there.

How cool! :D

10 to 1 the Dragon is Eustace, and he makes a rather spectacular arrival. ;)) Note how it doesn't look like the Dragon is actually attacking the Dawn Treader; it's just flying around and then settles on the mast. (Like it would fit!?!?). Poor Eustace; I hope he's not too hurt. :(

Whew, I feel seasick just from watching that shaky video :))
I agree 100% with Gymmie. I bet that dragon is Eustace, and he's NOT attacking the ship, but trying to get their attention.

The narration is kind of reminisant of what Caspian is talking about on the Dark Island: "'Its just going to settle on the mast,' said Caspian."

I hope it is just Eustace and not a expansion of the Dark Island sequence. It seems too light outside for the Island.

It probably is Eustace, but it could be the other dragon I suppose. But then again I'm not sure it would be flying around when it is near death. Unless something that happens to it while it was flying around causes its death later. But that wouldn't make much sense come to think of it. I don't think Eustace would go off by himself if he knew there was something dangerous on the island. :-\ So I think I'm agreeing it's Eustace. Where do you think the dragon crashes? On the boat or in the water?

When I saw the part about the mast I thought the same thing. Shouldn’t the mast be gone though? In the book, they lost the mast in a storm before Dragon Island.

Ditto on the guess of it being Eustace. Sounds like one of his early attempts to get their attention. :p

Very cool video. Pretty interesting to get an idea of what they're doing at this point. :)

Wow, thanks for sharing icarus!

Yes, the crew probably have no idea it's Eustace at this point...

some screencaps of the main cast (maybe. its hard to tell with that shaky video)

Image

i'm guessing this is the main cast since there are two people there about the size of Georgie and Will. Skandar is probably there too since i recognize the grey vest/white sleeves on the other photos on the boat. Drinian is also probably there since i recognized someone bald. when the director started yelling about the dragon being at the front these set of people descended the stairs towards the back of the ship very quickly. this also leads me to wonder if Caspian is among those above because this screencap below is what follows when they were running towards the back of the ship.

Image

at this point this is all just guesses.

if the Dragon is Eustace then i'm not sure who the second smaller figure is, although i'm pretty sure Lucy is one of them. i also seem to recall on the leaked scriptment that Eustace the Dragon comes towards the Dawn Treader in a vain attempt to get the crew to recognize and help him.

I love that video, the visual isn't the best, but it's the direction that I am most into.

There is very little doubt that that is Eustace, his first encounter with the rest then would be different, but by the sounds of it AMAZING! :-bd

I SO can't wait to see this! :x

I don't really mind that the whole situation is probably changed, if it fits, then great!
Maybe this way it will seem more interesting.

Is Lucy the one with a ponytail who ran to the other side of the ship?

The smallest figure there is carrying a sword, Maybe it is Reep's stand in or Dr. Cornelius if it isn't Eustace.

Very interesting glimpse. :D True, the camera was rather shaky and that somewhat was distracting, and all it was was a bunch of people running around on deck to the director's orders, but... :) Thank you for sharing, icarus!

(On a side note, though, wouldn't the director's voice- or who ever it was calling out the instruction- be caught on film? I thought everyone, except for the actors, needed to be silent when they were filming...)
