Constantinople, once called Byzantium, which, as Istanbul, is still an important world city, even though it is no longer the capital of modern-day Turkey.

[unbelievably, someone on the tv programme I am watching just talked about something happening in Copenhagen!]

Darwin, the capital of the Australia state of Northern Territory.

Hastings, a town on the south coast of England, famous for a nearby battle (commemorated in the naming of the actual town, Battle!) in 1066, and also famous for smugglers.

Iberia, a name of the entire modern Iberian peninsula, containing both Spain & Portugal, as well as an old Hellenic kingdom located in Georgia, in the Caucasus mountains, along with Colchis of the Golden Fleece.

I think your Georgian town is called after Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette , a Revolutionary hero in USA though loyal to the autocratic Louis XVI in France, but also believed having a Constitutional Monarchy such as the system then in use by his enemy, in USA, at any rate, Great Britain /:) . He had a chequered reputation in France & Austria during & after the French revolution, dying as late as 1834. :-o
