Cannakkale, Turkey. (Cannakkale is where you'd go to visit the archaeological sites of Troy plus Anzac Cove and other Gallipoli battlefields)

Eketahuna, a small town in New Zealand (about 2 hours north of Wellington)
“Not all of us can choose what we give up. The things we love are taken or are never ours at all. If we’re lucky, life is defined not by what we let go, but what we let in: friendship and kind words, frailty and hope.”

Gelibolu, the Turkish name for the town and the surrounding battlefields of Gallipoli along the European side of the Dardanelles, commemorated each year there, by the UK, Australian and New Zealander forces, in a WW1 attempt to blockade Istanbul, which, in turn, was blockading Russia's own access to the Mediterranean Sea.

Istanbul, Turkey. Once called Constantinople before 1453, it remained the capital of the Ottoman Empire, having been the capital of the previous Byzantine Empire, which succeeded what was left of the Roman Empire. Constantine the Great built Constantinople from the previous Greek-established city of Byzantium.
