Doesn't using a local public library, regularly, free up ratepaying residents from having to amass enough books, DVD's & other materials to store their own personal library?

Is that any reason for people not to borrow books?

Doesn't that depend on which books are your favourites, on the one hand, and which books you might read only the once that will clutter up your book shelves?

But even if you only read a book once, can't you keep it so you can loan it out to friends?

Would your friends want to borrow the book or books in question?

Do you trust those friends sufficiently to return any favourite book you might want to keep?

What if those friends never return your favorite book and the book is out of print?

Have you ever heard of Inter-library loans, whereby your own fantastic & virtuously guarded borrowing record may induce your local library to scour other libraries' holdings for anything it doesn't hold itself? ;;) :ymsmug: :)

What would happen if the books aren't at those other libraries?

Would the librarians be allowed to purchase those books at their discretion?

Doesn't the answer to both the above questions depend on the library's book budget, the purpose of the library to be asked, & the sort of book item being requested?

Wouldn't the libraries budget depend on location i.e. small town or large city?

What if the smaller towns want more books than they can afford?

Don't those towns, larger or smaller, have finance departments & accountants who allocate how much money librarians receive to run the library?
