Lake Superior, or Lake Michigan and Huron (all in the US) together, or the Caspian Sea (between southeast Europe and western Asia), depending on the characteristics required to call a body of water a "lake."

Proxima Centauri, at about 4.24 light-years. The closest star visible to the unaided eye is nearby Alpha Centauri.

2. WHY are people superstitious about cats? Superstitions about cats started in the Medieval times when cats, originally given to women for company, then became associated with witchcraft. Black cats, considered lucky by ancient Celtic people and the Japanese, were considered especially unlucky by people in Western Europe and UK.

1. According to Wikipedia as of 2012 the magnetic north pole was at 85.9°N 147.0°W. But it's constantly moving.

2. WHY do people in USA celebrate Thanksgiving? The tradition started when the pilgrims and Native Americans shared a feast together, celebrating the pilgrim's survival that year, and they were naturally thankful for that. :) We still celebrate it because a) it's a national holiday and b) it's an awesome holiday (that second reason may be a result of bias ;) ).

2. WHY do you usually use yeast when you make bread? Yeast is necessary in most types of European bread to make the dough rise, and double in size before baking as loaves. Yeast is merely another name for leaven, and in the Middle East and India there are many sorts of unleavened or flat breads.
