World Series starts tonight! St. Louis is going to win the series in 6 games I'm calling it now! I'm not even a Cardinal fan, but I HATE Boston.

On a side note - 20 years since the great Joe Carter world-series winning homerun! Its too bad Toronto preformed way below expectation this year. :D

Don't usually post on this one, but I have to mention a little incident.
Vikings just returned the ball from inside the goal on the opening kick-off within a foot of the back. I believe that is only the second time that has ever been done.
I expect it to be all down hill from here.

What were the Cardinals thinking trading David Freese to the Angels???? X( Next year does not as exciting as it had. I think I may have to go drowned my sorrows in a cupcake or two.

If you reckon chess as a sport - the Olympic Committee does :) - then my greatest sports news is that (fellow Norwegian) Magnus Carlsen is the new chess world champion :D
He won the championship with the fastest victory for 103 years.
And he's only 22 years old!

I honestly have no idea! I guess he was to old to be part of the Cardinals infield - The oldest current starting infielder is 29. Don't worry the Cardinals have been good, are good, and will remain good, with no end in sight to the pattern because they continue to be so effective not only at developing their own players, but at making trades that fit in with their general philosophy.

And then there are my Blue Jays... :|

I was shocked when I heard Freese was leaving. Another is too, but I didn't recognize the name. Oh, and did you hear Chris Carpenter (aka Carp) has retired from the MLB? :( My dad seems under the impression that Beltran is leaving too, but I sure hope not! We've already lost, or are in the midst of losing, quite a few players! :(( X( (first Pujols (sp?) a year or so back. Now Freese, and a few others...)

See... this is why I find it hard to keep our roster straight! It feels like every time I learn the whole thing (or at least know all the big names), and get favourites, somebody (or a couple) leave! It's obnoxious. Oh, well... are the new players we're getting as replacements any good?

....
Also, is it too early to be sick of football? (not that I cared to begin with) I miss baseball, and can never seem to catch the hockey games. 8-| :ymblushing:
......

Edited to add:

Don't worry the Cardinals have been good, are good, and will remain good, with no end in sight to the pattern because they continue to be so effective not only at developing their own players, but at making trades that fit in with their general philosophy.

Thanks for that, Impending Doom! It meant a lot, and made me feel better. I'm sure SnowAngel would agree with me. :ymhug:

And wow, Varna, that's cool! :)

Ditto! I still wish they hadn't trade him though especially to the Angels.

My little brother was so disappointed the Cardinals traded David Freese, he is my little brother's favorite baseball player. Maybe Matt Carpenter or Allen Craig will have to be his new favorite Cardinal.

We are more interested in football at our house right now. The Chiefs have lost three straight games and need to get back on track this week. And my Mizzou Tigers at 11-1 are in the SEC title game! :D Excited, nervous, can't believe they really made it this year! :D

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are right around the corner and here in my household everyone is anxiously awaiting for the opening ceremonies to begin. People have found sports a national pride since the Olympics between the ancient Greek city states. Soccer is a faith in Europe just as baseball is in the Dominican and football is in America. In spite of all Canada's regional differences, language disputes, and even religious arguments; Canadian's are consistent on one thing we all know and love hockey. So when our nations greatest hockey players come together and play for one team, with one goal at hand, it's something very special for us as a country. So I will be glued to my television whenever Team Canada is playing... especially against the US :ymsmug:

Some Athletes I'm looking forward to watching:
- Ashley Wagner (Figure Skater)
- Patrick Chan (Figure Skater)
- Charles Hamelin (Speed skater)
- Sidney Crosby ( Ice Hockey)
- Kaillie Humphries (Bobsleigh)
- Drew Doughty (Ice Hockey)

Go Team Canada!

I'm also looking forward to the Sochi Olympics, Impending Doom. Hockey is also big here in Minnesota so I imagine a lot of people will be glued to their TV sets when US plays Canada.

Yesterday's NFL playoffs featured two come-from-behind, last-second victories. The game that I'm interested in seeing today is in Green Bay, which has gotten a lot of national attention this week because it's so cold. But I think I'll root for Seattle through the playoffs.

And it's only about 3 months until the MLB season and (theoretically at least) warmer weather arrive.

I myself don't really follow cricket but I know the Ashes has just finished and Australia won(well that was hard to miss). It covers the front of news papers etc. Throughout the series it often was on the front page of some newspaper.

I LOVE the Winter Olympics and have been looking forward to them since the 2010 games ended. There are so many events I enjoy watching- Hockey, Skiing/Snowboarding, curling, speed skating, bobsled/luge, biathalon...

Now, I just need to figure out how I am going to watch it since I don't have TV this time around....

The NFL playoffs sure were fun this weekend! My beloved Eagles lost, but I quite like the Saints as well, so it wasn't too painful to lose to them. Plus, I am excited about the future in Philly with Chip Kelly as coach and Folse under center.

I don't think the Saints will be able to get past Seattle, so in the NFC, I guess I am rooting for the Seahawks or Carolina. In the AFC, I think it will be hard for any of the defenses to slow down Peyton and the Broncos enough to win. I like Peyton and would like to see him get another ring to end the silly debate about Eli being the better Manning because he has 2 Super Bowl rings [-(

I'm also looking forward to the Olympics. :D They're the only sports I ever follow. ;)) As we get closer to February, we'll open a special thread for the Olympics.

Yay! I'll keep my eyes peeled for that! :D

Did anyone hear about the Marshawn Lynch fine? The NFL fined the Seattle Seahawks running back $50,000 after finding out this past week he hadn't spoken to the media all season! Oh the horror! [-( Seriously? That's just ridiculous!

So I'm very loosely following March Madness this year. :-o Kind of funny because I never do... ;)) But three Kansas teams started out in the brackets this year. Kansas State University is my ulma mater, Wichita State University is close to home and they're rocking the basketball world this year (35-0, new NCAA record! :-o ), and then there's Kansas University, whom I occasionally cheer for because they're from my state. :P ;))
Two out of three teams won yesterday... KU and WSU. KSU did not, but I'm not terribly surprised; and even if they had won, they would have played WSU next and I SERIOUSLY doubt they could have won that game.
WSU and KU both play tomorrow. We'll see if they advance or not.

I don't care for basketball, especially the Kansas teams. (One of side of the family is from Kansas and the other is from Missouri, I am from Missouri!) I did hear that the Kansas teams didn't do so well.

I am so ready for baseball! I can't wait for next week, I am really looking forward to watching the Cardinals again! :)
