Apply to be a HobbitWeb Moderator!

Postby DiGoRyKiRkE » Mar 31, 2012 6:29 am

As you may have noticed, there have been a few changes around here within the past few hours. There are new forums to moderate, new topics to post in, and more fun to have, but the rules still need to be enforced.

When NarniaWeb closed and HobbitWeb was born the former NarniaWeb moderator staff was informed that not all of them could be kept onboard. Some of them displayed an alarming lack of knowledge concerning Tolkien, Middle-Earth, and The Hobbit, and as such, they must be replaced. The positions recently vacated by some of these former moderators need to be filled. As such, we are adopting a policy never before used on this site; we are now accepting applications to become a HobbitWeb moderator. All applicants must meet the proper criteria:

All applicants must meet these criteria:

1. All applicants must have belonged to the forum for at least 3 days.

2. All applicants must have at least 50 posts.

3. All applicants must be at least 13 years old.

Note: These requirements may be waived for applicants displaying an astounding knowledge of Tolkien's world.

To prove your Tolkien knowledge, you must also take this quiz. You may only take the quiz one time, and MUST post your score. We're running this off of the honor system (because a true mod ALWAYS shows honor!!!!) so don't cheat! Don't look up the answers online, and don't confer with each other as you take the quiz!

Those who are interested should respond in this thread. By filling out the questionaire below, you are officially nominating yourself as a potential candidate for a HobbitWeb moderator:

1. When did you join NarniaWeb/HobbitWeb?
2. What is your current post count?
3. Do you meet the age requirement?
4. How fluent do you consider yourself on general Tolkien knowledge?
5. Why do you think that you would be a good forum moderator here?
6. What are your qualifications? (Feel free to post a full resume)
7. How have you displayed leadership ability on this forum?
8. What additional comments would you like to add to your application?

Starting pay for a moderator on this site is $10.00 (USD) per hour logged (plus an additional $2.00 (USD) for every spammer banned). The admins are currently trying to find an affordable health insurance program for the forum moderators, which would include prescription drug coverage, optical and dental, along with general doctor's fees. They are also looking into lucrative 401K plans, and are comparing it to the traditional Social-Security system currently in place. Details concerning the pay and benefits will be passed on to all applicants deemed worthy of a position with this firm.

If you have any questions, you are encouraged to contact one of the current forum moderators (even though some of them will be fired at the end of this process), and they'll be able to walk you through the application.

Thank you, and good luck!
The HobbitWeb staff.

Well, of course we all know I'm going to stay a mod due to my extensive knowledge of Tolkien, not to mention how awesome I am. Need I say more?

What is your current awesome quotient, Fili? I think you need to quantify your awesomeness in order to add it to your credentials.

I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly, because my awesomeness far outweighs being measured. However, if I had to guess, my awesomeness quotient would be 1,000,000 out of 100%.

1,000,000 what? Percent? Pieces of cheese? Yards of yawning yarrow yarn? Your inconclusiveness is definitely a strike against you!!!

PERCENT, of course! I can't believe you didn't know that. /:)

You made a note? Doesn't matter. Eventually everyone will realize how much they need Fili to remain a mod. It's inevitable.

Oh dear, I guess it's a good thing that the pending health insurance coverage includes daily doses of geritol!

1. When did you join NarniaWeb/HobbitWeb?
~February 2007, Shire Reckoning.

2. What is your current post count?
~1389 (only 9 above the year I was born, SR, of course)

3. Do you meet the age requirement?
~You bet your stars and garters: 51 years old at present, thank you very much—18 years passed since my Coming of Age.

4. How fluent do you consider yourself on general Tolkien knowledge?
~Very. After all, I am one of his characters, if you take my meaning.

5. Why do you think that you would be a good forum moderator here?
~Because I am Sam. And Sam I am.

6. What are your qualifications? (Feel free to post a full resume)
~No time to delve into this extensively, but does following (and taking mighty good care of) Mr. Frodo all the way to Mt. Doom weigh in at all? Along with killing one enormous spider-y thing near Cirith Ungol. And putting a certain creepy ex-hobbit in his place a number of times since he joined us by the Emyn Muil there. Aaaand then coming home and having 13 chilluns with my sweetheart, Rosie. ♥ Plus being mayor of the Shire for 7 consecutive 7-year terms! I could go on and on and on, but you get the gist. Oh, also I was graciously given the Star of the Dúnedain by King Elessar. Wow, that just tickled my furry toes tremendously. :D

7. How have you displayed leadership ability on this forum?
~I have been instrumental in a certain, uh, Conspiracy, which was finally unmasked in Chapter V of The Fellowship of the Ring.

8. What additional comments would you like to add to your application?
I. Am. Samwise Gamgee. Banazîr the Brave. Loyal, true, loveable, humorous (though not purposefully), hard-working, faithful hubby and father (of 13 chilluns, no less), well-liked Mayor, and Grand Gardener, who especially enjoys trimming the verge.

1. When did you join NarniaWeb/HobbitWeb?
March 2004

2. What is your current post count?
1425, just 4 above my birth year (Shire-reckoning)

3. Do you meet the age requirement?
Nope, but I'm so beautiful that doesn't matter. "Elanor the Fair" You do know that my name is a reference to the sun-star, a little golden flower blooming in the land of Lothlórien, thus satisfying my dear father's desire for a name that was both Elvish and yet at the same time a simple flower-name, as many hobbit-lasses have. (Mr. Frodo suggested this name to dad.)

4. How fluent do you consider yourself on general Tolkien knowledge?
A fair bit, and I'm still learning as my dad and mom just won't stop going on about this author!

5. Why do you think that you would be a good forum moderator here?
I'm wise, flaxen-haired, fair, quite rambunctious, and exquisitely likeable.

6. What are your qualifications? (Feel free to post a full resume)
I am Elanor the Fair. My father, whom I affectionately call "Sam-dad", is Samwise the Brave. My mother is the most marvelous Rosie Cotton, and I was bestowed as the Lady Arwen's maid of honour in 1436, Shire-reckoning.

7. How have you displayed leadership ability on this forum?
Everyone simply loves me, I am that endearing. Humbleness and modesty, however, I am still learning to embrace.

8. What additional comments would you like to add to your application?
Please consider me, wee halfling that I am. At least, let me be an advisor to those Great Ones, since I am deeply ingrained in the wondrous world of Middle-earth.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

1. When did you join NarniaWeb/HobbitWeb?
2009 (Membership switched to HobbitWeb 2012 with forum change ;)) )

2. What is your current post count?
That is visible under my avatar.

3. Do you meet the age requirement?
Yes

4. How fluent do you consider yourself on general Tolkien knowledge?
My husband, Sam, went on the legendary journey with Mr. Frodo. He's told me many a story. I have heard them so many times I can tell them myself. I passed levels 1-3 of the quiz. I got 3/8 on Level 4.

5. Why do you think that you would be a good forum moderator here?
I know a thing or two about setting and enforcing rules.

6. What are your qualifications? (Feel free to post a full resume)
I'm a Hobbit so I know there customs are and all about them. I have 13 children so I have a lot of experience keeping people in line.

7. How have you displayed leadership ability on this forum?
I have embraced the change to HobbitWeb. I have opened two games already.

8. What additional comments would you like to add to your application?
You need mods (or sheriffs as we should be calling them) with experience. I have both forum experience and relevant life experience. Besides, it would be nice to make this something we can do together as a family. My husband Sam and daughter Elanor have applied too and my daughter Daisy posted the announcement of the switch.

1. When did you join NarniaWeb/HobbitWeb?
Er, let me see, that would have been several years ago, bless me, I've been far too busy going for walks in the Shire and writing, to keep a record of that.
2. What is your current post count?
Oddly enough, just the same as my age, eleventy-one!
3. Do you meet the age requirement?
Yes indeed - please see my answer to question number two.
4. How fluent do you consider yourself on general Tolkien knowledge?
A Baggins is fluent in everything, my dear chap! But very respectable.
5. Why do you think that you would be a good forum moderator here?
While I enjoy a quiet evening alone, the Tookish part of me delights in parties and such, and making sure everyone is getting along well.
6. What are your qualifications? (Feel free to post a full resume)
I am Mr Bilbo Baggins of Bag End, a very respectable gentlehobbit, son of Bungo Baggins and Belladonna Took (one of the daughters of the Old Took) don't you know.
7. How have you displayed leadership ability on this forum?
Leadership? Why, already this morning I have arranged for two dwarves to cook my breakfast!
8. What additional comments would you like to add to your application?
Where IS that boy Frodo? never around when you want him....
“Not all of us can choose what we give up. The things we love are taken or are never ours at all. If we’re lucky, life is defined not by what we let go, but what we let in: friendship and kind words, frailty and hope.”
