What would Aravis wear? Update: Calormin style in general
There is finally a thread for the character of Aravis, but I thought it would be fun to have a section for her clothes. I found some patterns a while back on Simplicity that I thought would be nice for Aravis or for Calormins in general.

This pic is from my spanish program. you can't see much of the outfit, but it struck me as nice for HHB.
This is a Royal Persian scimitar with 1,295 rose-cut diamonds, 50 karats worth of rubies, and a single 11-carat emerald, set in 3 lb. of gold, first owned by Abbas I and given in tribute to Catherine the Great. I thought it look great for Aravis or at least for a Tarkaan.

Update: I've decided to change this topic so we can discuss Calormin style in general.

Pretty costumes! Fit for Aravis her majesty. I don't personally like jewel-encrusted daggers, but that is a nice one and is what the Calormines would most likely have. Neat!

I liked the jewels on the scimitar, but it seems more fitting for someone like Rabadash or Tisoric who'd be more flashy with their wealth.... if Aravis had jewels on hers, they probably should have fewer little stones, and perhaps more of the big ones (like just the big red stones in the picture)

Lu_valient, that's a lot how I thought she should look too!
There definitely should be less jewels on Aravis' scimitar, although I was thinking less of the big ones because they're worth more.

Re: What would Aravis wear?
Lady Arewns first costume I think would be perfect if she was dressed as a girl but we need to remember that it will start with her dressed in her brothers clothes, probably. The trousers under the skirt on outfit 1 could maybe be worn without the skirt and that way suit Aravis but not be openly female.

I really love the second picture The Lady Arwen Undómiel had. I could really imagine Aravis wearing it. Of course I assume it would have to durning her time with Lasaraleen. The swords are definitely Calormine too.

Hmmm well my thinking behind it was that the more stones there were, the more ornate the scimitar would become and Aravis seems like that's something she wouldn't flaunt that much. As for jewel size, I just thought it might look pretty to see one big stone in the center

Re: What would Aravis wear?
I see what you mean; it wouldn't be as sparkly if it had less small stones.

Re: What would Aravis wear?
Just to inspire some ideas, C.S. Lewis based Calormine culture almost completely on Turkish/Ottoman culture... maybe this includes costume?

I think she wears clothes not only beautiful but also comfortable
Anyway she have to ride Hwin's back,so too many jewelry will be obstacle!
But in Anvard,I think she wears a beautiful dress

Re: What would Aravis wear?
Great ideas, Lucia! I would love it if her clothes were rather casual at first, like they could look nice on her but not be very pretty, and then she could have a gorgeous dress at the end when she visits Cor's family (is that Anvard?).

What would Aravis wear?
Well, in her home and at Lasaraleen's palace, I'd say she'd wear some sort of sari, though nothing too suggestive of one culture. No veils; they look too Muslim to the casual viewer. Something like this:
Then she'd wear her brother's armour. I always pictured it as being sort of gold-coloured and scaly, light armour.
Then a beggar's outfit--torn oversized pants and a ragged tunic stolen from some local village.
And lastly, a real Narnian dress, I'd like to see her in something bright coloured, maybe yellow against her dark skin, and something in the style of Susan and Lucy's dresses of LWW/PC.
