Songs that Remind you of Narnia

Often times we find songs that remind us of things in fiction even though they weren't written about those respective works. I thought it would be interesting to share songs that we know that remind us of Narnia.

Here are two songs that can be used for a possible redemption of Susan that you all might like I'll include the lyrics

The Place I'll Return to Someday
Music by Nobou Uematsu.Lyrics by Kate Covington

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXkcswJQ8hE

Look into the sky
Can you see the moon across the ocean
Coming close to me
I can hear the melody

Cry into the void
Let my voice become the hand that reaches
Out to you and leads
To my long lost memory

Carry me home
I lost my way on roads ever weaving
Home
Where darkness fades and hearts are ever believing
Carry me home
I close my eyes and cling to you ever dreaming
Find me
Oh don't forget the child for whom you are grieving

Voice that calls from there
And the footsteps of its fallen angels
Now becomes the beat
Of my heart so incomplete

Every night I bathe
In the blue that washes over me
And brings me to my knees
In this longing I believe

Carry me home
I lost my way on roads ever weaving
Home
Where darkness fades and hearts are ever believing
Carry me home
I close my eyes and cling to you ever dreaming
Find me
Oh don't forget the child for whom you are grieving

Note: The "dream" would be our world in my view.

These walls of time release
My eyes move like the drift
The cries, they resonate within
The fabric tears before me
Break ties between the kin

Reaching for a way out of this dream
I waste my breath ascending
Fears lead me astray
The past brings them to be
Whats left to carry me...

But a memory
The dream endures these lies
Forever at the edge, left surviving alone

Whats left as I wonder
I've found a world where I am free
Inside that which is truth

And what of this illusion I've come to know? It's not the Same.
Holding back the distant memories.
Presently I've found I am not alone.
In a world of infinity sewn.

I reach for a way out of this.
I waste life like its nothing but a fantasy.

Perceive beyond the seam
A soul evolves as one

A NarniaWeb user (don't remember who...) told me about "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay, and ever since every time I hear it I can't help but think of Narnia.

Heather Dale is an artist that reminds me of Narnia. She takes her inspiration from that same romanticized view of medieval times that Lewis drew from when creating Narnia so her music sounds "Narnian" IMO. These two songs especially:

As I Am: these lyrics don't quite fit (as it is a love song) but so many of them do, I always think of it as perfect at the end of LWW.

I suppose that I look different without the robes and crown
I come this day before you with no riches, no renown
For here I am no leader, I am just a humble man
And I only ask you take me, you take me as I am

I'm not looking for perfection, I'm not offering a saint
I'm not looking for a pretty bird to put in some restraint
The only thing I want is that you love me if you can
And I only ask you take me, you take me as I am

I offer you a look inside, I offer you that trust
I need your strength to help me fight the battles that I must
I need you to remind me of the light we bear within
That there's more to life than struggle and the things we seek to win

Don't take me out of duty, don't take me out of pride
Just take me if the man you see is one you'd stand beside
I'm offering an open heart, I'm asking for your hand
And I only ask you take me, you take me as I am

Here it is on Youtube (as background to clips from BBC's Merlin)

Brother Stand Beside Me: Great song for the storyline from either LWW or PC. The line "Let a world to tired to sing, relearn its song" is so fitting for either one.
Here are the lyrics:

Brother, stand beside me -- Brother, lend your arm
The land below lies stricken
And this fight has nearly come
Let them sing our praises when we've gone

Brother, stand beside me -- Brother, lend your arm
See the weakness in the world
And choose to be strong
Let them sing our praises when we've gone

Brother, stand beside me -- Brother, lend your arm
All it takes is one to say
We'll take back that ground
Let them sing our praises when we've gone

Brother, stand beside me -- Brother, lend your arm
Let a world too tired to sing
Relearn its song
Let them sing our praises when we've gone

The Focus on the Family radio theatre theme music. The first time I heard that theme music was when I was listening to the CoN so now, everytime I hear it, I close my eyes and imagine it playing as I run over the green hills of Narnia, pause for a second at the top of a steep hill covered with boulders, raise my arms in the sunlight, and then go down the hill: jumping from rock to rock and then running, running, running with the wind blowing my hair back and the sun warm on my face.

ahhh. *shakes herself* oh, uhhh, oh, yea-yea, ooohh-k, ummmmm, ok, I'm back now, *looks around with a silly grin* What was I talking about?

"Highwaymen" written by Jimmy Webb, and recorded by various artists, the only version I ever listened to was by the Highwaymen (Cash, Nelson, Haggard Kristopherson). But the second verse talks about a sailor and always reminded me of VDT. The third verse, about a dambuilder reminded me of the bridge builders in the PC movie. I'd post a link, but it contains one teeny tiny cus word :ymblushing:

On another note I was looking for random Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron soundtracks the other day... and I stumbled upon this very intruiging youtube video in the related section.... whoever made it was a pretty good editor...

So now whenever I hear "Train Escape" I think of Spirit and LWW :P

For some reason "Amsterdam" by Coldplay reminds me of Narnia, especially Prince Rilian. Some of the lyrics:

"Come on, oh my star is fading
And I see no chance of release
And I know I’m dead on the surface
But I am screaming underneath"

and

"I’m sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to a noose
You came along and you cut me loose"

Also this part of the song "Colourless Colour" by La Roux reminds of Shasta and Aslan:

"You say it's coming
But I can't see it at all
You know me well, but I don't know you at all
No, I don't know you at all
It's always just on the horizon
So my hopes rise and fall
You know me well, but I don't know you at all
No, I don't know you at all"

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

"Breakaway"

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

[Chorus]

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

Except that none of them really grew up in a small town. But otherwise it fits and reminds me of Narnia. It works for several characters.

"Night Ride Across the Caucasus" by Loreena McKennitt. I think it really matches the Horse and His Boy:

"You Decide" by Fireflight
I found this video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKVoSLCCo9E

Fiction and reality collide
Faceless and so busted up inside
You've been searching you've been crying out
Will you be destroyed by all your doubt?

You decide
(Who will you run to)
Wrong or right
(There is no reason)
For you to hide
Only love can change your life
You decide

God is calling out to you again
Let Him pull you, let Him take you in
From the fear that swallows up for your life
Will you stay the same or will you fight?

You decide
(Who will you run to)
Wrong or right
(There is no reason)
For you to hide
Only love can change your life
Only love can change your life

Every day you hold on to your lonely broken heart
(It's tearing you apart)
God is calling out to you just let healing start
(Will you open up and let Him in)

You decide
(Who will you run to)
Wrong or right
(There is no reason)
For you to hide
Only love can change your life
You decide

You Found Me by the Fray has always reminded me of Susan, after she stops believing in Narnia. Then
her siblings die
and I've always pictured that time of her life as resolving bitterness and hopefully coming back to "Aslan".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wt2DG1ukcU&feature=fvst

This song has always reminded me of that.

I've been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want!

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, where were you? Where were you?
...Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

Why'd you have to wait to find me, to find me?

Riella, good thought, that song does seem a lot like Susan. Another song that could follow up that song to describe Su would be "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell. I think that it would describe the different stages of Susan's life.
The first verse describes what she was like in LWW. The second verse sort of describes her experience from PC and VDT (where she's flirting and stuff). And the fourth describes the rest of her life. The point of the song is that it's an epiphany where she realizes that she doesn't have all that control on her life. Being "smart" (as usual) didn't change anything; and she's not all that smarter than all the rest.
I really think it portrays that humbling moment that us "know it alls" come to when we realize we don't really know much, at all. :ymhug:

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I’ve looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way.

I've looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall.
I really don't know clouds at all.

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real; I’ve looked at love that way.
But now it's just another show. You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away.

I've looked at love from both sides now,
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall.
I really don't know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud to say "I love you" right out loud,
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I’ve looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange,
They shake their heads, they say I've changed.
Something's lost but something's gained in living every day.

I've looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall.
I really don't know life at all.

thanks for reading! :)

"Hymn For The Missing" by Red
the video is a really cool concept, but the lyrics in this song also, to me, seem like words Lucy could sing to Susan, after she turns her back on Narnia

watch here: (someone's fan video. it's really cool!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=710cYf3OfMM

I tried to walk together
But the night was growing dark
Thought you were beside me
But I reached and you were gone
Sometimes I hear you calling
From some lost and distant shore
I hear you crying softly for the way it was before

Where are you now?
Are you lost?
Will I find you again?
Are you alone?
Are you afraid?
Are you searching for me?
Why did you go? I had to stay
Now I'm reaching for you
Will you wait? will you wait?
Will I see you again?

You took it with you when you left
These scars are just a trace
Now it wanders lost and wounded
This heart that I misplaced

Where are you now?
Are you lost?
Will I find you again?
Are you alone?
Are you afraid?
Are you searching for me?
Why did you go? I had to stay
Now I'm reaching for you
Will you wait? will you wait?
Will I see you again?

"Southbound Train" by Jon Foreman to me talks about the train ride to Professor Kirks house in the countryside.

Oh, I guess they'll say I've grown
I know more than I wanted to know
I've said more than I wanted to say

I'm heading home
Yeah, but I'm not so sure
That home is a place
You can still get to by train

So I'm looking out the window
And I'm drifting off to sleep
With my face pressed up against the pane
With the rhythm of my heart
And the ringing in my ears
It's the rhythm of the Southbound Train

Over and over
I hear the same refrain
It's the rhythm of my heart
And my sleepy girl's breathing
It's the rhythm of my Southbound Train

Oh, I suppose they'll say I should've known
Or maybe I'm just feeling old
Like a lawyer
With no one to blame

I'm headed home
Yeah, but I'm not so sure
That home is a place
That will ever be the same

So we gather up our things
And we head out in the cold
And your eyes are where you carry the pain
When I hear the whistle weeping
It's crying to the sky
It's the rhythm of the Southbound Train
It's the rhythm of the Southbound Train

Another one is "Goodbye" by Ulrich Schnauss, the sound of it gives me that same sad feeling whenever the kids have to leave Narnia. :-s

Desculpe qui este cancion es en Gallego. But it sort of reminded me of that comment that Aslan tells Lucy, well the last verse in any case.

"I will always be telling you that tale, little one". Ecos do Alen, by Luar Na Lubre. Lyrics under the -show more- tab

And I sort of imagine someone singing this one to reepicheep (well, when he was little maybe and probably not with gaitas - but who knows) Remembering that during that time Miraz was still in power and narnians were a persecuted lot.

Cantiga de Berce por Luar na Lubre though the expanded lyrics por Fuxan os Ventos are equally evocative.

And I suppose this sort of reminds me of Eustace being stuck in dragon form, though maybe it's a better fit for Aravis, hard to say. Its about being surprised by joy, I guess. The light of heaven seems to seep through the darkest clouds.

-ah? Ok.

Anisa says I not to leave you with two sad songs, so this one's for Nantli Galadriel and all the elven diaspora reading here and the rest of you with dim memories of other lives. Substitute Valinor or Narnia for Caledonia as you like.

Always liked that cartoon, WolfLoverSK, too bad Cuetlachtli has such a bad reputation in Narnia (middle earth too). I'll see about fixing that someday.
