THere is supposed to be a romance between Polly and DIgory. As it turns out, they did get married and she was living with the Professor. You just did not see her! This will be explained in MN and we will see more of a romance between them.

Wow, that'll be very interesting how they show that! I hope the movie makers will be able to do this without any confusion. Maybe in LWW, Polly had gone on a trip of something? This will be interesting to see...

Also, do to some criminal activity in their youths, Diggory and Polly Kirk changed their last name to McReady. In LWW, he is only know as the proffesor- that would be, Professor McReady.
