David Magee to script The Silver Chair

Postby fantasia » Dec 05, 2013 10:06 am

The news is in, 'The Silver Chair' has a scriptwriter! :D David Magee, whose IMDb page can be found here. I haven't seen 'Life of Pi' but I've seen 'Finding Neverland' and 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' and enjoyed both of those movies. :D So as of right now, I'm happy. ;)

I think I was just typing my post in who should we get when you posted this!

This sounds REALLY GOOD. :D

Big news! Magee has quite the resumé and I'm a big fan of his works, so I'm excited that they've hired a true professional!

I found a quote from David Magee
“I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of ‘The Silver Chair‘ and could not be more excited about it.”

Sounds really promising. When were the scriptwriters announced for LWW?

Ann Peacock, the original writer, was on and off the project prior to when NarniaWeb started posting news, so it was pretty early on. I'm looking through the archived news, and I don't see mention of Markus and McFeely joining the project either, so unfortunately I can't answer your question. I do think the order went Ann Peakcock, Andrew Adamson (director) and then M&M.

Thanks anyways fantasia_kitty!

I had no idea Magee has been nominated for two Academy Awards, two Oscars and a Golden Globe! Seems like he is quite talented! :ymapplause:

This is great news for me! I'm often unfamiliar with screenwriters when they're announced, but I'm a big fan of Magee's work on Finding Neverland and Life of Pi. To me, those movies show me that Magee has a good understanding of literature. Now, we just need a director that I'm equally excited about! :)

Good to see the ball keep rolling for The Silver Chair. It shows that whatever the budget may be, the producers are interested in hiring talented people. :ymapplause:

Best wishes to David Magee; a most important task ahead for him.

Pretty excited about this! Although this will have a lower budget, (I'm assuming it will be lower), I'm glad they've decided to invest in a good screenwriter.

I'm glad he enjoys the Narnia books. Let's hope he also understands them.

I guess I'm just encouraged they didn't hire the Transformers screenwriter or something, haha.

Either way, I suspect we will see the script get passed around to a couple more screenwriters.

Finally, some good news. Someone who already loves the CoN is more likely to do a better adaptation and understand what it's about.

hooray for more news. I'm not sure what to think yet and am still watching and waiting, but seeing as Finding Neverland is one of my favorite movies, there just might be something there. (of course, Amazing Grace is also one of my favorite films and I was hopeful when Michael Apted became director of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and we all know how that ended.)

I love this choice! But again, we'll have to wait and see what happens. :)

Proper direction is what we need as well...I loved Adamson's interpretation and was sad to see him go, but I'd like to see what someone else can bring to the table. But it has to be someone who has a proper vision and a respect for the source material, something seriously lacking in Dawn Treader

I thought Life of Pi was a very faithful adaptation to a very uncinematic book. I really like this decision!

We just recorded a podcast on this (GymFan returns, yay!). The more I think and talk about it, the better I feel. It has changed my perception of the production and makes me really feel like SC could be something special.
