ABC Family airing PC (possible slightly extended cut?)

Postby wolfloversk » Mar 11, 2012 8:13 am

I don't know if this belongs here or not but, (If not, mods please move)

I'm currently watching ABC family, and they're currently showing PC, but they added in a few of the deleted scenes...

So far I've seen the dialogue between Peter and his siblings, as they are walking through the apple orchard about how he left his sandwich in his bag, and his bag at the train station... etc. I'm also pretty sure a few scenes are slightly longer, they showed them poking a hole in the door of the treasure chamber from the other side of the door, which I don't remember from the theater or the dvd.

Is anyone else watching this, or saw it when it was on yesterday?

I've seen those deleted scenes, but I'd never heard of an extended version being aired anywhere. Good find!

They also showed the scene where Peter and Susan storm into the Nursery by mistake (I didn't like that one).

From the looks of it though they didn't include any of the scenes with unfinished CGI (Picking the guards (wrong word?) for example) they also didn't include the archery training scene, possibly because it would have messed up the plot (when they discover the Telmarine soldier).

I don't know if it's official, but it's nice to get a new look at PC.

Mostly the new stuff is deleted scenes or perhaps slightly longer shots (like I said there doesn't appear to be any new CGI)... also this is 3 hrs on the TV so it's only between 15 and 30 minutes of "new" stuff.

That was one of the few deleted scenes that I'm glad didn't make the final cut. It just didn't seemed like it belonged at all. (just like of couple of scenes that DID make the cut :p )

Not a huge fan of that one either. But It's still really nice that all of this is being aired at all. I guess we don't know if an extended version will be released on DVD/Blu-Ray, right?

That's really interesting. I don't think i've ever heard of that being done before. I mean, TV channels usually edit their movies a lot, but usually they edit the runtime down, such as to fit the runtime into their existing schedules, or to work in advert breaks, or to remove any inappropriate content for the time at which they want to show it. But i don't think i've ever known a TV channel to edit a movie to increase the runtime in such a way.

It's particularly interesting given that it's on the Walt Disney owned ABC, though whether or not that makes it "official" or not i don't know, though being on any network channel certainly puts it well above consideration of a Fan Edit such as you often find on the internet.

As far as we know there's nothing in the works, but with them who knows? My question is even though they no longer have the rights to make more movies, could Walden/Disney/Fox still release edited or extended cuts on DVD?

icarus, I've noticed the same thing about networks cutting scenes rather than adding them... the closest possible situation I've seen to this is that ABC Family also will typically air the extended version of LWW (it did right before PC in fact), but even then I've noticed it cuts a few little pieces out, and it merged the credits scene with the rest of the movie. I was curios about the fact that ABC Family is Disney owned as well... though as you said it still doesn't make it official... perhaps just an extra for its viewers... Also given the length of PC, it may have been easier to add scenes rather than cut them in order to get it to fit into the time slot. When this is the case some networks will air cartoon shorts after the film, but I don't know if ABC Family is in the cartoon shorts business.

of course, they can still release extended cuts. Harry Potter 1 and 2 got a slightly extended edition a year ago i've heard.

I have the extended version of Narnia 1, and it's really terriffic, but I've never seen a Caspian extended version. Very cool. Love to see that on DVD / Blu-ray as well.

Hmm, I've only known of one instance where a telelvision network added scenes back into a movie when it aired, and it wasn't in the case of PC (oddly enough, it was back in the time of VHS viewing only, so that was a little weird, but very interesting).

I didn't see it, but I am glad to hear some of the deleted scenes were added back in (after seeing the deleted scenes on the DVD, I always felt like of some of them really should have been in the film)- i.e. the walk and talk through the apple orchard (a big plus for fans of the book). I was never too thrilled either with the scene where Peter and Susan enter the nursery- way out of place for what's going on at that time in the film. It would have been nice if the scene where Peter prepares for the duel with Miraz was included, but I can understand why no incomplete CGI shots were included (definitely would throw the viewer off).

As for an extended version of PC being released on DVD, I'm not sure on whether or not I would want to see it. Yeah, I do like a lot of the deleted scenes, but I've seen them (this was a different case with the LWW extended edition). Not to mention, I'm not sure how it's possible to go back and edit the missing CGI scenes to add them back in- with the adding of fully animated and detailed CG characters.

What? At least that DOES confirm there IS an extended cut of PC, but after the less-successfull-than-anticipated PC, they probably decided it didn't have the market for a re-release on DVD.
I'd love to see the extended cut, though. But how can I, if I couldn'T see that specific viewing without them mentioning it prior? Those corporations.
The Call - Movie Version sadly had to be removed from this signature :(

Actually, I've seen it done before. I saw a Pirates of the Caribbean movie marathon where the movies were extended and included the deleted scenes. I also saw them do it with the live-action version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

It would be really great if an extended version of PC was released on DVD. But just because the channel included some of the deleted scenes, that doesn't necessarily mean there is an extended cut. They could have just taken the deleted scenes from the DVD and edited them in. Is there any material that was aired that can't be found on the DVD or Blu-Ray?

I haven't seen the deleted scenes, but it would be cool to see them in the middle of a movie like that. I've also seen part of the LWW extended on TV once, mostly the battle. I certainly hope they show the edited PC again, if anyone here's about an upcoming showing can they let us know?

I didn't recognize anything substantial... unfortunately. At the most it'd just be a little extra scenery that they wouldn't even bother to include on the dvd.

It'd be nice to get an actual extended cut, but at this point it seems unlikely... perhaps it'd be different if the series wasn't up in the air as it is now.
