VDT at the Box Office

One of the biggest reasons many people didn't consider Prince Caspian a success is because although the film grossed a fair amount, it also cost a lot to make. We know the budget for Voyage of the Dawn Treader is just under 150 million dollars, which I believe 30-40 million less than what was spent on Prince Caspian.

So how much do you think Voyage of the Dawn Treader will have to make to ensure The Silver Chair being made?

Also, how much would Voyage of the Dawn Treader have to make for you to consider it financially successful?

What are your box office predictions for this film?

since it cost $150 to make and PC was a disappointment at the boxoffice,
I think they'd want atleast $200 or $225 at the North American BO. PC also only made about $450 worldwide, VDT would have to make more, about $500-600.

Of course one can never really know what they want in order to continue, unless they say it which I don't think they've done so.

For me to think it's successful I'd say it would have to atleast meed it's production cost domestically and go over by another $10 or so.
So $160-170 would be mildly successful, because it broke even. With international numbers it will go much further which all even better.

Does anyone know if the 150 million includes advertising costs?

As far as I know usually it doesn't include advertising costs. That's the production cost, what it cost to make it. Advertising is usually an added expense and so Walden Media and Fox are being very smart in letting fans see and record things, therefore that fans do the early advertising saving them quite a few bucks.

Yeah the budget never includes advertising, (that I know of anyway) I don't think it will have to make all that much to be considered a success, For One thing Fox loves Sequels. Star Wars, X-Men, Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Ice Age, Cheaper By the Dozen, Die Hard. All have sequels and All are Fox, and If it's Budget is Only $150 Mil, it could make less the PC and there still could be a Sequel, Star Trek Cost $150 Million to make and has only made a little over $380 Million worldwide and they are making a sequel. but $257 of the is it's domestic Gross, but I think DW Could be considered a Success, if it made $400 Mil WW, Maybe Like $180 USA $220. OS. but I think it will at least match PC's Gross of $420. I'd Say something along the lines of $180-$250,000,000 Domestically. $300,000,000+ Over Seas.

Prince Caspian's production budget was reportedly around $225 million. Marketing went on top, with some estimates as high as $175 million.

Check out http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/the_big_picture/2009/01/the-secret-hist.html

VDT's budget is around $140 million plus marketing. But don't forget, a film doesn't just make money in theaters--it also makes a boatload from DVD sales.

If VDT pulls in $450-500 million worldwide and does well on DVD, Silver Chair will probably be film #4. In fact, if VDT's opening weekend is anything over $60 million in the US and international grosses are strong, I bet Fox/Walden make a move on a director and writer the following week.
