Broome, WA. 75 years ago, today, (3 March 1942) Japanese Zeros bombed Broome, noted for a thriving pearling industry. Dutch East Indies aircraft, fleeing the Japanese invasion there, were trying to evacuate their women and children to the relative safety of Australia. More than 80 people, mostly women and children, died in the onslaught.
