Is practicality merely a sometimes inspired way of solving ongoing earthly problems that need sorting, such as poor food storage facilities?

Would someone with a good understanding of human nature be better able to detect when the news is exaggerating, rather than merely highlighting negativity?

Aren't there laws against libel, defamation of character, slander and spreading untrue gossip and rumours to prevent newspapers from publishing lies?
