1. WHERE in Europe would you find Picardy and Flanders? Flanders is a region in the Northern, Dutch-speaking region of Belgium, around the city of Brussels. But Flanders, "where the poppies grow", tends more to be associated with the southern part of Belgium which borders Picardy, whose main town is Amiens, is a province of Northern France. Both southern Belgium and Picardy were heavily involved with much of the fighting in World War I.

2. WHY do some people and organisations use the herb rosemary for remembrance, instead of poppies? Rosemary is associated with memory. This idea seems to come from folklore, but recent studies indicate that rosemary does promote memory.

3. WHEN was the first dinosaur fossil discovered? Allegedly in 1676, when a huge thigh bone (femur) was found in England by Reverend Plot. This was reported nearly a century later, and after that, in New Jersey, a nearly full skeleton of a dinosaur was found. Probably dinosaur bones had been found all along, giving rise to much myth and legend.

In the Northern Hemisphere it usually occurs in October though it may not come until November (it's the first full moon after the Harvest Moon, which is the one nearest the September equinox).

2. WHY do most plants need sunlight to live? Plants make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. This process uses sunlight to synthesize the food from carbon dioxide and water. Incidentally, the byproduct is oxygen, which humans and other animals need to survive.

2. WHY was the supersonic Concorde airliner discontinued? The Concord was developed in a time when fuel was easy to come by but was considered uneconomic to operate. Though it was reliable and there was only one accident involving this aircraft, it was retired finally in 2003. The Oil crisis of the 1970's made it extremely expensive, and its mechanics were also very complex, and so would-be operators rethought their options.
