Always do. 95% of the books in my personal library are from the thrift shop or library sales. There's no point in buying a new book unless all the other options are otherwise rendered unsuable for worthy reasons. (of course, I love buying new-feeling books because of their crispness, but I won't shell out so much for something because it's brand new from the store if I can buy the same thing in mint condition for substantially cheaper.)
