In the novella 'Legion', Brandon Sanderson wrote:"Wait," J.C. said, sauntering up. "Ivy, you think we're missing something, but you don't know what it is, and have no clue what it might be?"

"Basically," Ivy said.

"Hey, skinny," he said to me, "I'm thinking I'm missing a million dollars, but I don't know why, or have any clue as to how I might have earned it. But I'm really sure that I'm missing it. So if you could do something about that ..."

Susanna Clark's 'Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell' wrote:“Such nonsense!" declared Dr Greysteel. "Whoever heard of cats doing anything useful!"
"Except for staring at one in a supercilious manner," said Strange. "That has a sort of moral usefulness, I suppose, in making one feel uncomfortable and encouraging sober reflection upon one's imperfections.”

John Newton wrote:O glorious hour it comes with speed
When we from sin and darkness freed,
Shall see the GOD who died for man,
And praise Him more than angels can.

The Way of the Righteous In the Muck of Life: Psalm 8 by Dale Ralph Davis
“What is man...or the son of man?’ Why should a mere speck of dust on the light years of God's calendar matter to him? David at least has no doubt that he does matter; he's just baffled to bits over why. When he says, ‘What is man?’, he is not asking a question but making an exclamation---he is really saying, ‘What a God!’ He is not posing a mental teaser; he is engaging in breathless praise."

So often we try to make other people feel better by minimizing their pain, by telling them that it will get better (which it will) or that there are worse things in the world (which there are). But that's not what I actually needed. What I actually needed was for someone to tell me it hurt because it mattered.

~attributed to John Green. He did say some things very much like that, and perhaps said or wrote that exact thing at some point ... or maybe someone just took what he said and refined it. Thus far, Google has failed me.

There's no thrill in easy sailing, when the sky is clear and blue.
There's no joy in merely doing things which anyone can do.
But there is some fulfillment that is mighty sweet to take
When you reach a destination you thought you couldn't make.

Brandon Sanderson in 'The Way of Kings' wrote:“Ten orders. We were loved, once. Why have you forsaken us, Almighty! Shard of my soul, where have you gone?”

“A man stood on a cliffside and watched his homeland fall into dust. The waters surged beneath, so far beneath. And he heard a child crying. They were his own tears.”

“They are aflame. They burn. They bring the darkness when they come, and so all you can see is that their skin is aflame. Burn, burn, burn….”

“Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns.”

"He watches! The black piper in the night. He holds us in his palm... playing a tune that no man can hear!"

“I’m standing over the body of a brother. I’m weeping. Is that his blood or mine? What have we done?”

“He must pick it up, the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!”

“A woman sits and scratches out her own eyes. Daughter of kings and winds, the vandal.”

“The death is my life, the strength becomes my weakness, the journey has ended.”

“They come from the pit, two dead men, a heart in their hands, and I know that I have seen true glory.”

“I see them. They are the rocks. They are the vengeful spirits. Eyes of red.”

“That chanting, that singing, those rasping voices.”

“Above silence, the illuminating storms—dying storms— illuminate the silence above.”
I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind
Some come from above, some come from behind
But I've bought a big bat, I'm all ready you see
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!

Lady Haleth, I love Andrew Peterson! And that song is one of my especial favorites. :ymhug:

Here are a couple of my latest favorites.

A.A. Milne wrote:Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind.
"Pooh?" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's hand. "I just wanted to be sure of you."

C.S. Lewis wrote:To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it in tact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully around with hobbies and luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket--safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

I'm kind of obsessed with movie quotes, especially Disney. Here are a few of my favorites:

“Oh, that reminds me! Last year at the Salmon Run, my friend Bucky totally dared me, but I’d heard about this other cub who stuck his tongue to an iceberg, and then he started to float away, and so to save him, they had to like rip off his tongue, and so now he hath to tog like thith all a time…”

-Koda, Brother Bear

“You must never give in to despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road, and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength.”

-Uncle Iroh, Avatar: the Last Airbender

“Fly away, Stanley. Be free!”

-Fillmore, Cars

“Ah, how shall I do it? Oh, I know. I’ll turn him into a flea, a harmless, little flea, and then I’ll put that flea in a box, and then I’ll put that box inside of another box, and then I’ll mail that box to myself, and when it arrives…I’ll smash it with a hammer! It’s brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, I tell you! Genius, I say! … Or, to save on postage, I’ll just poison him with this!"

-Yzma, The Emperor's New Groove

“I give up. I see no point in living if I can’t be beautiful.”

-Howl, Howl's Moving Castle

“Trolls exist! They steal your socks, but only the left ones. What’s with that?”

-Gobber, How to Train Your Dragon

“We look like bad guys. Incompetent bad guys!”

-Lucius, The Incredibles

“Why are you initiating physical contact with another woman?”

-Eska, The Legend of Korra

(Yes, this is from Book 2! If you haven't seen it yet, go see it!! ;) )

“He’d make a very handsome throw rug. Just think, whenever he gets dirty you can take him out and beat him.”

-Zazu, The Lion King

Okay, that's probably enough for now... And that's only a small sampling of my collection of movie quotes. I've got tons more. :p

As a man, I'm flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol... as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.

Bruce Wayne- Batman Begins

"Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth

Lou Gehrig

There's only one God, ma'am, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that

Captain America- The Avengers

Once and for all, I adjure you to set me free. By all fears and all loves, by the bright skies of Overland, by the great Lion, by Aslan himself, I charge you—

Rilian- The Silver Chair

I never had a policy; I have just tried to do my very best each and every day.

Abraham Lincoln

But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us

Here are a bunch of Marvel movie and TV quotes:
The world is full of evil and lies and pain and death, and you can’t hide from it—you can only face it. The question is, when you do, how do you respond? Who do you become?" -Agent Coulson, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ep. 12 "Seeds"

You've just destroyed the world's most dangerous sandwich!--Agent Fitz, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ep. 9 "The Hub"

The world is crazier than I am--Dr. Erik Selvig, Thor: The Dark World.

Ta-da!--Loki, Thor: The Dark World

. . . there is only the next mission. For the first time in my life I know what I have to do. And I know--in my heart--that it's right--Tony Stark, Iron Man

Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to exit the doughnut!-- Nick Fury, Iron Man 2

You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys, but there's one thing you can't take away: I am Iron Man--Tony Stark, Iron Man 3

These people are innocent. Taking their lives will accomplish nothing. So take mine--and end this. Thor, Thor.

A strong man, who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power. A weak man knows the value of strength--and knows compassion--Dr. Abraham Erskine, Captain America: The First Avenger.

Loki: How desperate must you be, that you call on such lost creatures to defend you?
Nick Fury: You threaten my world with war, you steal a force you can't control, you talk about peace, and you kill 'cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate--and you might not be glad that you did.The Avengers

Fandral: Our dearest friend banished, Loki on the throne, Asgard on the brink of war, and you've managed to consume a side of beef, two roast boar, six pheasants, and two casks of ale! Shame on you, don't you care?
Volstagg: Do not mistake my appetite for apathy!
Thor

I don't want to kill anyone. I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from.
Steve Rogers, Captain America: The First Avenger.

I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him. Dr. Bruce Banner, The Avengers

These ones are behind spoiler tags because they're from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and I don't want to spoil it for anyone:

The price of freedom is high, always has been. But its a price I'm willing to pay. And I might be the only one, but I'm willing to bet that I'm not-- Captain America.

Don't look at me. I do what he does, only slower. The Falcon, [/quote]

Alexander Pierce: Are you ready for the world to see you as you really are?
Black Widow: Are you?

The Falcon: How do you tell the good guys from the bad guys?
Captain America: If they're shooting at you, they're bad.

This isn't freedom. This is fear--
Captain America.

Captain America: You're my friend.
The Winter Soldier: You're my mission
Captain America: Then finish it. 'Cause I'm with you to the end of the line.
:(
