From the movie How To Steal A Million (1966)

Simon Dermott: [reviving Nicole from her faint] I'm the one that's bleeding!

Nicole Bonnet: Don't be such a baby, it's only a flesh wound!
Simon Dermott: Happens to be my flesh.

Nicole Bonnet: For a burglar you're not very brave, are you?
Simon Dermott: I'm a society burglar. I don't expect people to rush about shooting me!

Simon Dermott: Why must it be this particular work of art?
Nicole Bonnet: You don't think I'd steal something that didn't belong to me, do you?
Simon Dermott: Excuse me, I spoke without thinking.

Nicole Bonnet: I feel like I'm going to faint!
Simon Dermott: Don't, there's no room.

Simon Dermott: [to Nicole, in the museum] Okay, you're the boss. Just do as I tell you.

Re: Favorite Quotes!

Here are a bunch of quotes from The Emperor's New Groove:
I'll turn him into a flea, a harmless little flea. And then I'll put that flea in a box, and I'll put that box inside another box, and I'll mail that box to myself. And when it arrives--HA HA--I'll SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER! It's brilliant I tell you! Genius I say! Or--to save on postage, I'll just poison him with this!
Yzma.

Feeel the power . . . Now our moment of triumph approaches! It's DINNER TIME!
Yzma.

For the last time, we did not order a giant trampoline!
Random guard.

Now he's doing his own theme music? . . . Big, dumb, and tone deaf. I'm so glad I was unconscious for all of this
Kuzco.

For the last time, that was not a kiss!
Pacha

Why did I think you could do this? This one simple thing. It's like I'm talking to a monkey . . . A. Really. Really. Big. Stupid. Monkey. Named. Kronk. . . And do you want to know something else? I've never liked your spinach puffs. NEVER!
Yzma.

A llama?! He's supposed to be dead!
Yzma

Um, I've been turned into a cow. Can I go home?
Random soldier

Chica: So remind me again how you're related to Pacha?
Yzma: Why I'm his third cousin's brother's wife's step-niece's great aunt . . . twice removed

Yzma: Tell us where the talking llama is and we'll burn your house to the ground.
Kronk: Don't you mean 'or'?
Yzma: UGH! Fine. Tell is where the talking llama is or we'll burn your house to the ground.
Chaca: Well, which is it? That seems like a pretty crucial conjunction!

One of these days you're going to end up all alone . . . and you'll have no one to blame but yourself.
Pacha

I love Yzma . . .

As well as a few from The Princess Bride

Vizzini: No more rhymes! I mean it!
Fezzik: Anybody want a peanut?

Inigo: Give us the gate key
Yellin: I have no gate key
Inigo: Okay, Fezzik, tear his arms off.
Yellin: Oh, you mean this gate key.

I can't help that I'm the strongest. I don't even exercise.
Fezzik

Inigo: Do you have six fingers on your right hand?
Westley: Do you always begin conversations this way?

Inigo: I give you my word as a Spaniard.
Westley: No good. I've known too many Spaniards.

You've fallen for one of the classic blunders. This first is: Never get involved in a land war in Asia. The second is: Never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line! HA HA HA, HA HA HA-
Vizzini.

I am the Dread Pirate Roberts and THERE WILL BE NO SURVIVORS!
Fezzik

"You can't hurt me. Westley and I are joined by the bonds of love. And you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds. And you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords. And when I say you are a coward, that is only because you are the slimiest weakling ever to crawl the earth."
Buttercup. Her best moment.

I enjoyed your Emperor's New Groove ones, Lady Haleth. That's one of my all-time favourite films. The screenplay and dialogue is seamless and brilliant. I probably laugh hardest while watching it than I do at any other film.

A few from me.... :

Helen/Mrs. Incredible (Elastagirl): 'What do you think the baby will be doing?!'
Edna: 'Well, I don't KNOW, darling. Luck favors the prepared.
~The Incredibles

Russell: "A Wilderness Explorer is a friend to all. Be it a plant or fish or tiny mole."
Carl: "That doesn't even rhyme."
Russell: "Yeah it does." -UP

On a more serious note: :P

"We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts"
— A.W. Tozer

"No stars gleam as brightly as those which glisten in the polar sky. No water tastes so sweet as that which springs amid the desert sand. And no faith is so precious as that which lives and triumphs through adversity. Tested faith brings experience. You would never have believed your own weakness had you not needed to pass through trials. And you would never have known God’s strength had His strength not been needed to carry you through."
— Charles H. Spurgeon

"We are so little, that if God should manifest His greatness without condescension, we should be trampled under His feet; but God, who must stoop to view the skies, and bow to see what angels do, turns His eye yet lower, and looks to the lowly and contrite, and makes them great."
— Charles H. Spurgeon

"Music is at its best when it is pleasingly melancholic." - Charles H. Spurgeon

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.”

I'll stand beside you, never leave you
Through it all
And faith will bring a way to the impossible
Skillet "A Little More"

I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar
Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Crossing the Bar.

If anyone says he does not know these pleasures [of resentment] he is either a liar or a saint.
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

. . . if faith is all we've got
Then maybe faith is all we need

And may the angel of His presence keep your heart
And when your prayers give flight to your dreams
May the only scars you see on their wings

Be the wounds of love
Rich Mullins, "Wounds of Love."

Somewhere, beyond these reasons and feelings
Somewhere, beyond the passion and fatigue
I know you're there
And that your Spirit is leading me somewhere
Beyond all this
Rich Mullins, "Somewhere"

. . . the reckless raging fury they call the love of God
Rich Mullins, "The Love of God"

. . . the silence that you keep is the silence that kills.
Rich Mullins, "Promenade"

You've been living life like it's a sequel, and you're already bored with the plot
Switchfoot, "C'mon C'mon"

Let us rise up with the summer sun
Let our songs awaken the dawn
Let us breathe every breath like a gift to be kept
Let us breath it all in till it's gone
. . . . . .
We will rise like the wings of the dawn
When everything's new
Same as above

It's easy to say
That there's a reason for this
Much harder to know
That what we say is true
Needtobreathe "Streets of Gold"

To love another person is to see the face of God
Les Miserábles (musical)

We will live again in freedom in the garden of the Lord
We will walk behind the plowshare, we will put away the sword
The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward!
same as above.

and two silly ones:
Prepare to meet . . . MR. ANGRY EYES!
Mr. Potato Head, Toy Story 2

Puny god
The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers.

Just adding in a few FotR quotes. :)

J.R.R. Tolkien, in The Fellowship of the Ring, wrote:‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo.
‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. And already, Frodo, our time is beginning to look black.’

J.R.R. Tolkien, in The Fellowship of the Ring, wrote:‘Behind that there was something else at work, beyond any design of the Ring-maker. I can put it no plainer than by saying that Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, and not by its maker. In which case you also were meant to have it. And that may be an encouraging thought.’

J.R.R. Tolkien, in a conversation between Frodo and Gandalf about Gollum in The Fellowship of the Ring, wrote:‘I can’t understand you. Do you mean to say that you, and the Elves, have let him live on after all those horrible deeds? Now at any rate he is as bad as an Orc, and just an enemy. He deserves death.’
‘Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.’

J.R.R. Tolkien, in The Fellowship of the Ring, wrote:‘What strength have we for the finding of the Fire in which it was made? That is the path of despair. Of folly I would say, if the long wisdom of Elrond did not forbid me.’
‘Despair, or folly?’ said Gandalf. ‘It is not despair, for despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt. We do not. It is wisdom to recognize necessity, when all other courses have been weighed, though as folly it may appear to those who cling to false hope. Well, let folly be our cloak, a veil before the eyes of the Enemy! For he is very wise, and weighs all things to a nicety in the scales of his malice. But the only measure that he knows is desire, desire for power; and so he judges all hearts. Into his heart the thought will not enter that any will refuse it, that having the Ring we may seek to destroy it. If we seek this, we shall put him out of reckoning.’
‘At least for a while,’ said Elrond. ‘The road must be trod, but it will be very hard. And neither strength nor wisdom will carry is far upon it. This quest may be attempted by the weak with as much hope as the strong. Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.’
Some days you battle yourself and other monsters.
Some days you just make soup.

Re: Favorite Quotes!

Postby RubyGamgee » Jul 17, 2013 10:54 am

Here are some recent favorites of mine. Most of them are humorous, but some are actually somewhat profound...at least I think they are. /:)

Abraham Lincoln wrote:The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never be sure whether they are reliable or not.

Sherlock Holmes wrote:It's a matter of professional integrity! No woman wants to marry a doctor who can't tell if a man's dead or not.

Sherlock Holmes wrote:It's so overt, it's covert.

Chronicles of Chrestomanci wrote:Something's terribly amiss. I've been putting two and two together ever since I woke up in the bath and I keep getting five.

Audrey Assad wrote:If Eve hadn't eaten the apple, would we all have had symmetrical features and great bone structure? Or would we just not have cared?

Oscar Wilde wrote:I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.

Oscar Wilde wrote:Who, being loved, is poor?

The Decoy Bride wrote:I'm like kryptonite to men. Kryptonite dipped in cellulite.

Fairy Tales Retold wrote:But you're idealists. That's the problem. In the fallen world ideals are easily shattered and then you have a disillusioned idealist, which is almost worse than a cynic. No. I think you need to be a romantic in order to survive, because it doesn't make sense to be one. It never does. That's the whole point.

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 wrote:Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil--this is the gift of God. For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart

I love the Rich Mullins quotes...and all of the quotes from "How To Steal A Million". I just watched that movie for the first time in a long time the other evening. It is too hilarious! :D

Happy quoting and God bless!
