Re: Poetry
I found this poem about autumn in a box of papers yesterday. I can't remember when I wrote it - probably five or six years ago. I thought it fit the mood of fall nicely.
Autumn is Here
The hues found in autumn
Paint a portrait inside my head
The magic of many colors,
Brown and orange and red
Rustling in the branches,
Spiraling from the trees,
Specks of gold and scarlet drop
Flashing in the breeze
The haunting cries of traveling geese
Echoing from up so high
The noisy chatter of bustling squirrels
Gathering nuts to hide
The tired sighing of the wind,
The crispness of the year,
All of nature testifies:
Autumn is finally here.

Re: Poetry
That was beautiful!
Here are a couple of mine. The first one is a Narnia fanfic for The Silver Chair, the second is something I thought of in connection to Narnia. It's not really about it, but I was thinking about kings and queens in exile and I wrote this.
Buried
In the darkness, in the night
I’ve lived for years without the sun
In the darkness, out of sight
Of all I knew and loved
With no memories of sunlit lands
Of fields and mountains, ocean sands
And gulls that cry above
Of forests in the morning light
And trees reflected upside down
In pools of water clear and deep
And marshes where the breezes sweep
Yet once I knew
For one hour I recall
Would it were an hour more!
These things I knew.
For one hour I hope and plead
Yet those around me pay no heed
I’m trapped, as I was before
I heeded wrongs, now I pay the price
Of a wretched and cursed life
In chains of enchantment bound
Waiting in vain underground
For my release
I will live what I believe
Despite enchantment, despite lies
My actions will not be deceived
If all I know is but a dream
All memories of sunlit lands
Of fields and mountains, ocean sands
And He who made them
Who sang the world from nothing
If all this is but a child’s fantasy
On that fantasy I make my stand
For I will follow His command
Though my mind denies Him
Kings and Queens In Exile
Why do you not weep and mourn
And wander lonely and forlorn?
When you are so humble now
You who were to power born?
Kings and queens in exile
Are kings and queens still
Though I rule nothing else
I still rule my own will
Even when the night is falling
Even when temptation is calling
I will retain my truth and honor
They’re not for selling
And so I still hold on to hope
That the fallen crown may be raised
From the dust in which it lies
And we meet again in happier days
Yet even if that is never to be
And if I am never going to see
The city I love once more
If I will never be free
I’ll live like the king that I once was
Or rather, the king I should have been
For my failings brought me here
I can count each one of them
If I should die and not regain
The throne that once was mine
Carve this above my humble grave
And keep it in your mind:
Though a king in exile, he was a king still
In this land of blood and tears
When looking at this stone recall
In this world we are but strangers
And exiles, as was he
Yet in the next world we hope to be
Royal once more,
And pick up our fallen crowns
From the dust where they’ve fallen down
For kings and queens in exile
Will be kings and queens again

Re: Poetry
I wrote this about a mountaineer who died on Everest in '96:
To: Rob Hall
What went through your mind
When you knew it was the end?
Or were you even aware
That death was around the bend?
Did you feel the rope around you
And the cold wind bite your face?
Or were you numb to it all
Had your mind gone to some other place?
Was the pain too great
Did it keep your hands still?
Or was the rope unforgiving
And you were stuck against your will?
Did you cry out for help
Did you believe someone would hear?
Or were you silent with resignation
When no hope of rescue was clear?
Were you angry?
Were you afraid?
Or did peace
Completely invade?
All alone
Your body was discovered there
Your last moments unknown
Your friends left in despair
And few will ever be
At that tragic place amid the sky
Over eight thousand miles above the sea
Where no bird or plane can fly
Rest in peace
Great adventurer and leader
We honor your legacy
Your brave pursuit of a dream, we revere

Re: Poetry
A little something I whipped up for my mom; she likes the haiku form.
Seasons:
Shoots push through the soil
Tender leaves open on boughs
A wind of rebirth
Lazy days pass by
Sun beams warmly as grass grows
The cool of water
Red leaves on the breeze
Breath freezing in the fell air
Whispers of Jack Frost
Boughs crack with cold winds
White dancing on fairy wings
Gyrating in awe

Re: Poetry
That's beautiful, dernhelm!
This is a song I wrote (Not a poem, a song, lol, it's important) It's about my friend who plays guitar and wrote a song to our other friend who recently passed away. It's mostly about that moment of us sharing our grief.
Wander restless, sleeping star,
And play me a song on your guitar
Cause your guitar is saving me,
Yeah, your guitar is saving me.
You sang about the friend we lost,
The pain we shared, the grief it cost
Your guitar is saving me,
Your guitar is saving me,
A lifeboat in a stormy sea.
It’s the very last sailing day
Tomorrow we put the boat away
So let’s enjoy this sailing day,
Tomorrow we put the boat away
Tomorrow we put the boat away.
So wander restless, sleeping star
Play me a song on that old guitar.
Cause it’s your music saving me,
Yeah it’s your music saving me
A lifeboat in a stormy sea.

Oh my. That's just gorgeous, MoonlightDancer. I understand how important it is to make it clear that it's a song, and I read it as such - and I loved it. It's heartbreaking and wonderful, and I love all the rhyming. Excellent job!
I enjoyed all the other poems posted here recently, as well. Great job, peoples!

Re: Poetry
Thanks Elanor!
I wrote a poem.
I prefer your smile to a thousand stars.
I prefer the morning sunlight on your hair
To sleeping past noon. Unless of course, you were tired.
I prefer the lonely sand-swept avenue
To a million dollar cruise ship. Unless of course, you were with me.
I prefer your old car that groans like a beast waking from sleep
To the finest and fastest Ferrari. Unless of course, you were driving.
I prefer the mellow twangs you pluck on your guitar late at night
To the most anticipated and expensive concert of the year. Unless of course,
You wanted to go.
I prefer your smile to a thousand stars
And I’d rather walk with you down the abandoned railroad
Than take the finest train in the city.
(Unless you wanted to of course.)

Re: Poetry
So here's a poem I wrote awhile ago. It doesn't really have a title.
A time for no sorrow, an absence of tears
A time for no worries, to put away fears
A time for the boldness of blinding light
Uncover your soul now, it’s shining so bright.
Though sorrow flies on butterfly wings,
And flows through the blood, that cries as it sings,
Through desperate wind in a barren place,
I’ve been discovered: a victim of grace.
In your presence, I can stand
Lost at sea, I’ve found the land.
In the silence, You have spoken,
In the stillness, I’ve been broken.
Cause no matter what, You still love me,
Yeah. You still love me
A time for no sorrow, an absence of tears
A time for no worries, to put away fears
A time for the boldness of blinding light
Uncover your soul now, it’s shining so bright.
Though sorrow flies on butterfly wings,
And flows through the blood, that cries as it sings,
Through desperate wind in a barren place,

Re: Poetry
Moonlight, that's lovely! You have such a great way of flushing out the scenery with your words. It's almost a song, but somehow, I feel like music might almost drag down the sweetness of the words.
I wrote this one when my baby sister was born.
I wrote this one when my baby sister was born.
Childhood's Call
When faerïe tales grow dim and old
When favorite toys are left to mold
When wild flights of pure belief
Are left to wreck on hidden reefs
When deaf we are to sweet birdsong
Childhood's call is over and gone
When streams have lost their friendly look
When friends now lost are frog and rook
When spending nighttime out-of-doors
Is far less dear than adult chores
When sleep seems short and day seems long
Childhood's call is over and gone
When babies' laughter fills the room
When smiling mothers laugh and croon
When toys and games again are used
As baby goes through threes and twos
Revived are joys and glories past;
Childhood's call returns at last
When faerïe tales grow dim and old
When favorite toys are left to mold
When wild flights of pure belief
Are left to wreck on hidden reefs
When deaf we are to sweet birdsong
Childhood's call is over and gone
When streams have lost their friendly look
When friends now lost are frog and rook

Re: Poetry
lovely poem MLD
Anne, I loved your poem, it's filled with the pure innocence of a childhood great job
a little something I wrote recently....it's bascially self explanitory
The Moment
I know I ought not to feel
Hope's glimmer inside my soul
Still it has risen within me
How to quench it I don't know
It was but a few moments
Not much of which to speak
You didn't know my heart was thumping
You didn't know my knees were weak
I tried to talk, though of course
It all came out rather lame
And though awkward was how I felt
I enjoyed it just the same
I listen to the sound of your voice
I didn't have the courage to look into your eyes
They have a wretched power you know
You have me hypnotized
I could never let my feelings show
For I know, it can never be
I couldn't even hint to you
How I have fallen for thee
I hide it everyday I see you
I hid it oh so well that day
I just enjoyed walking with you
And hearing the things you had to say
It all lasted for just a little
A moment really, and then it passed
And though it was short, you should know
I fully enjoyed it while it last
Tomorrow will rise fresh and true
That moment, perhaps forgotten on your part
But I will take that tiny moment
And forever burn it in my heart

thanks so much The Pendragon, and Windsong, sorry Windsong, about forgetting to tell you that I had posted here, hope you won't hold it against me
another poem I wrote recently
To the Martyrs
You stood so strong and brave
As you gazed into death's eyes
Though hell was opened to you
You were not afraid to die
You were not ashamed of Him
For whom you had been called to suffer
You counted it all joy
And you eternal honor
They had beaten, they had tortured
Still you stood strong and tall
You were willing to give your life
For the one who gave you His all
You had known the risk
When you accepted Him into your life
Because you had seen in Him
The way, the truth, the life
And so you stood, not afraid
While death taunted you
And all the crowds in the stand
Jeered and mocked at you
You lifted your eyes towards heaven
And hazed into the sky
And with a praise upon your lips
To you Saviour, you died
And when you passed through the gate
And gazed upon the Son
He opened up his arms to you and said
My faithful servant, well done
Some may think was it really worth
To die for one you'd never seen
But they could never understand
The faith you had inside of thee
Some may think you lost the battle
But in truth, you won the war
Death was not defeat, on no
Death was the final victory score
I wonder if I could ever be
As brave and strong as you
You have sent an example for me
How to my faith, I must be proud and true

Re: Poetry
Short one I wrote a few months ago, and it's weird because I'm not entirely sure what it's about, I just had a lot of emotions racing through me at the time. It can be whatever you want it to be about, so there
We are worlds away
Drifting on the wind
Where we go, we don’t stay
We run as if we sinned
We are climbing mountains high
Singing like the bird
We are flying through the sky
Wondering if they heard
We are braving ocean waves
Diving like the mermaid
We are running through the caves
Wishing we weren’t afraid
We are dimensions away
Skipping on the stars
Where we go, we don’t stay
We run as if we sinned
We are leaping as high as we can
Prancing like the cougar
We are dancing over the broken land
In a state of glorious stupor
We are shooting for something better
Reaching like the baby to its mother
We are running to the next adventure
Desperate for what lies around the corner
We are light-years away
Singing, diving
Dancing over the broken land
Where we go, we don’t stay
We run as if we sinned
We are worlds away
Drifting on the wind
Where we go, we don’t stay
We run as if we sinned
