Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
I have been starting the Thanksgiving on here for several years, usually try to start it on the first of the month, but just like last year I wasn’t home most of the weekend.
This thread always starts by asking what your favorite traditions or memories about Thanksgiving are?
My favorite tradition is my family’s “thankful for” jar. Most of you probably already know about this, but I'm going to post again this year so everyone knows. It's like this my Mom start the tradition when I was about 6 years old and we’ve done it every year since. Here’s how it works, we get a large canning jar (or any container wide enough mouth to stick your hand in), some nuts, M&M’s, candy corn, or other small candy and nuts. We pass the jar around the table and saying either "Thank you God for…"or "I’m thankful for…", and then we drop one piece of candy for each 'thankful for'. We usually do this at lunch every day until Thanksgiving and then on Thanksgiving we get to eat the candy and nuts. We each do 4-6 thankful fors everyday depending on the size of the candy or nuts we are using that day. We normally have 3 large canning jars filled by Thanksgiving, sometime more.
My other favorite tradition is going for a walk with the whole family in the afternoon on Thanksgiving. Last year we walk one of my favorite trails ever. It was awesome! This year, I’m not really sure where we will go, we haven’t really found a place to walk since we moved.
I’ll post my favorite memories later.
I’m thankful for…
~My wonderful parents.
~My mostly sweet sisters.
~My ordinarily awesome brothers.
~My amazing grandparents.
~My usually cool cousins.
~Being homeschooled.
~Being an Army Brat!
~The new Third Day CD, Miracle.
~Anything chocolate!
~Smilies!
That's only the beginning, I have a lot to be thankful for.

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
Ooooh, I have a big one this year.
For those who don't already know (and I think the vast majority of you do), on September 24th, my water broke. At the time I was only 26 weeks pregnant (normal pregnancies run for 40 weeks). I spent a week in the hospital and delivered my baby boy on September 30th.
Even though he is extremely premature, he is doing miraculously well.... and I am very thankful for my little guy.
Obviously I have a lot more to be thankful for, but I had to come and post the big one.

Did someone mention chocolate? I'm in!
I'm thankful your son is doing well too, fantasia.
In a similar vein, I'm thankful for all the wonderful people I've met here on NarniaWeb. I've had the privilege of meeting many of you in person, and it's been an awesome experience.
I'm very grateful right now for my family. Sure, that might be cliched, but my parents are getting older (approaching 85-90) and have had a lot of medical issues the last couple years. Right now I'm so glad they're doing fairly well.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

- Being alive and living to see my 20th birthday
- My family and my friends (both in real life and on NW) especially the ones who are there for me when I need it the most.
- Having the opportunity to attend college
- the squirrels and the fact that they're so fun to watch
- Having the opportunity to make a difference in other people's lives (hopefully for the better )
- Lots of other things I'm sure I'm forgetting

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
I'm thankful that I had Christian parents, who weren't perfect and left me with a lot of hangups, but who loved me fiercely and introduced me to their Greatest Love - the One that is my Greatest Love. I'm thankful they told me about our Savior. I'm thankful they lived in a way so that I could see His love through them.
I'm also thankful that I KNOW where both my parents are - before the Throne of Grace praising Jesus.
And I'm thankful that even though she had Alzheimer's - I got to here my mom share her faith about a month before she passed away. I'm very thankful that God gave me that blessing to know that my mom was still who she had always been and her priorities were what they had always been - sharing the love of Jesus with those around her.

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
The only thing that kind of counts as a family tradition for us is that most years we invite international students from the research group over for Thanksgiving. It means cooking tons of food and lots of prep work, but it's pretty fun and the students always seem to enjoy it.
I'm thankful for a lot of things, not the least of which is that I get several days off of university.
A few of the things I'm thankful for are:
-God's grace, providence, and provision
-My family
-My local church
-My friends
-NarniaWeb and all the great people on it
-Times when I get to just hang out and catch up with people
-Good stories
-Long books that draw you in
-Time to read
-Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins
-Mashed potatoes
-Apple pie
-Work, even when I get stuck debugging for weeks

Some days you battle yourself and other monsters.
Some days you just make soup.

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
I'm thankful for the parents I've been given. I sometimes drive and think, and wonder about all the different circumstances I could've been born to. But I'm thankful that I was born to a Christian home- through good and bad, this has been a blessing for my life. I love my family.
I'm thankful for my fiancee. This is my last holiday season as a single man. Early next year, I'll be married. For which I am truly thankful. I'm 28yrs old, and I'm ready for what is ahead. I'm thankful it came now, and not sooner- as much as I wanted it, I wouldn't be have been ready.

Wow, someone else who likes Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins! I love those, but sadly my older brother doesn't and since he doesn't I don't get to make them very often.

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
Traditions I must admit there are few spacific ones other than rotating turns at hosting. At least every third year is our's, so we must make sure to pick-up around the wig-wam.
As for what I am thankful for-
Salvation first, and formost.
My loving, and patient spouse.
A son who has given me great reason to be proud.
Employment in stable jobs.
Opportunities to help those in need.
My wife's cooking.
God's creation to enjoy, and share with youngsters.
The feel of a good tool in my hands when I'm in the shop.

Re: Thanksgiving 2012 – I’m thankful for…
Can't comment much on the tradition part, there really aren't any for me or my family, but I will give a small go on what I am thankful for (if I were to truly write all of them down, the list would be infinite):
-Family
-For finding my best friend without even looking (God's plans for each of us are truly miraculous and amazing).
-Receiving employment on my own steam.
-My life experiences.
-Movies to watch, books to read, and music to listen to.
-Having time for hobbies and to be able to find happiness through them.
-A roof over my head and for having all that I need.

I just finished listening / reading Jane Eyre. It drove me nuts that I didn't have anyone to discuss it with as I was reading it.SnowAngel wrote: ~Jane Eyre (again the book and the movie)

;)) I keep meaning to post in here but didn't get to it until now.
We usually just get together with our immediate family. We have a big breakfast together and then in the middle of the afternoon Thanksgiving dinner. This year we had homemade apple dumplings for dessert.
I am thankful for:
~ God's grace, providence, and provision (I loved the way you worded that Valia so I had to borrow it. Hopefully, you don't mind.)
~ Aravis's returning to her normal self (Aravis is my cat)
~ My friends
~ NarniaWeb! (which is where I met most of my friends)
~ living close enough to NarniaWebbers to get together regularly
~ My family
~ The Hobbit Reading Group
~ The Chronicles of Narnia (It is so obvious I almost forgot to list them )
~ seeing the Hobbit movie with friends
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
