Fire Fairy: That exact same thing happens to me sometimes. I mean, I read a lot. My parents are fine with it, so they don't actually take away my book.
Ok, my avatar was inspired by my veery recent reading of The Hunger Games series. I am really looking forward to the movie, so I picked a cool shot of Katniss (that several others may have used. Honestly, I have no idea).
My signature is actually my first. I finally found out how to make one, and put one of my favorite Switchfoot songs name on a cool picture of Tim.
For my location, I just put something from my (then) favorite movie: The Grid. [Tron: Legacy.]

This is my current set:
The avvie is from the movie Thor, and it's of Loki, my favorite character.
The sig is a quote sig. With the font type, I chose fancy over readable. But it says, "Heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to." The quote is from Hamlet.

In honor of yesterday's transit of Venus, I'm sporting new graphics (I'm so used to seeing Korra in my avatar I'll probably miss my posts for a while ). The avatar is Venus as seen on the sun from here in Minnesota, and the signature is part of the crowd I was with, eagerly awaiting first contact (the first appearance of Venus on the sun).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I thought I recognized that gal as Christy, SnowAngel.
Very nice, stargazer! Love the graphics. One can almost sense the anticipation from that crowd in your signature.
I, too, have changed my avvy and sig in honour of Venus' transit on June 5.

Re: Avatars/Signatures/Locations/etc!
It looks like a while since this thread has been posted in, but I recently changed my avatar, and I figured it was easier to just explain it here.
Anyways, here's my current Avatar/Signature combination:
The avatar is a picture of a Mesmer from the Guild Wars MMO (this one's specifically from the first game). Mesmers are masters of illusion and, IMO, are really fun to play, and I've been on kind of a Mesmer kick lately. Hence, the avatar.
My signature I've had for a long, long time, probably over half the time I've been on the forum. The picture is from a game that we played a long time ago, where people got to claim classic Narnian items and be the "Keeper" of that item. Well, Lucy's cordial was taken, so I took the next best thing. The other things listed are just the "clubs" I was part of at the time (most of which don't exist anymore, I don't think! ) I remember once complaining somewhere that I didn't have enough room for all of my clubs anymore in my signature, so someone--I'm pretty sure it was suchwascharn--made that for me so I could store it all as an image.

My username comes from The Silmarillion. Lady Haleth was a great warrior who led her people after her father and brother were killed.
The avatar is just a blend of a couple of sunset pictures.
The quote on the signature is from Sarah Williams "The Old Astronomer to His Pupil."
The other ones are from Switchfoot and St. Ignatius (it was quoted in a Sara Groves song).
